As the Walleye Warrior Marathon celebrates its 6th anniversary, we would like to thank you for your support. It is because of the support of our fishing community that we have been able to donate over $80,000.00 to cancer care. With the move of our event to Selkirk, we hope we can count on your continued support. The Walleye Warrior 24 Hour Marathon in support of Cancer Care Manitoba will take place in Selkirk, Manitoba on February 27th and February 28th, 2010.

The event will host a variety of activities that will appeal to anglers of any experience level. There will be a daytime fishing derby starting at 9:00am where anglers, whether they be first timers or pros can try their hand at landing the big one!

For the families wishing to take part there will be a Family Mini-Marathon and Kidzone from 1:00-3:00pm with special crafts and prizes and visits from various mascots. For those participants who are more adventurous, the 24 Hour Marathon will take place in our large heated tent where participants will continue to fish overnight. Breakfast and prize awards for the marathon will take place on Sunday morning complete the event. On Saturday evening all those attending are welcome to take part in a dinner and special memorial for Brian Leclair and other friends and family who have lost their battle with cancer.

Our food vendor for 2010 is "Extreme Fries/BBK".

The 2010 Walleye Warrior 24-Hour Ice Fishing Marathon is raising money to support pediatric clinical trials at CancerCare Manitoba. A pediatric clinical trial is a research study involving children and teenagers that are going through treatment for cancer. Clinical trials are necessary because information obtained in a science laboratory may not accurately reflect how a treatment works in people.

Standard treatment is the best treatment available thus far. It is a moving target. When a clinical trial shows that a new treatment is more effective than the "standard treatment", then the new treatment becomes the new "standard treatment" and so on.

Belonging to collaborative cancer research groups is also beneficial because it helps CancerCare Manitoba ensure that they are delivering "state-of-the-art" care to their patients, including even to those who are not enrolled on a clinical trial.

Progress is often made in improving the cure rates through clinical trials before much is known about what causes it and how the disease develops.
