Getting things Ready:
Volunteers get things ready for another year. Thanks to the volunteers, committee members, workers from the town of Gimli and the support for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers/Never Alone workers for their help. Here are some shots from behind the scenes on Friday.

Saturday - March 10th, 2007
Time for the event!
There was plenty of last minuted details to get ready for the start of the marathon. Here are some of the volunteers getting the site ready. From setting up the tents to sponsor banners it all got done! Once again the volunteers, committee members, workers from the town of Gimli and the support from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers/Never Alone workers got the jobs done in time.

Bash-A-Thon Social:
The Friday night social started things rolling. The social was held at the Lakeview Resort in Gimli. Thanks to Gudlite Music Entertainment Services for supplying the tunes. Snacks and a cash bar were available. There were also plenty of prizes to win too!

Let the Fishing Begin:
24 hour participants got set up and prepared for some fishing action. Additional Registration & Pledge Collections were available through the day. Manny’s Live Bait was back again on site offering Bait, tackle and Fishing licenses.

Media Challenge:
Local media were invited out to participate in the EZDOC Media/Celebrity Challenge Cup. Gord LeClerc of CTV Winnipeg was back to defend the cup. This year he met his match. The winners this year were Chris Cvetkovic (Winnipeg Blue Bombers) and Craig Stapon (SUN/CJOB). Anglers also joined other local media like Jon Ljungberg - Host of Breakfast Television at CityTV Winnipeg.

A Family Event:
It is great to see some families out to participate in the event. Both young and old enjoyed meeting the mascots. A definite highlight was Buzz and Boomer, mascots of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. LuLu Bell the clown was also out for some fun. Kids could discover our goodie/loot bags, enjoy the activities like face painting, craft table or a chance to build their own ice fishing rod!

The marathon Continues:
Thanks to all the anglers taking part in the event. The prizes for the Family Mini Marathon, Early Bird Registration Draws were handed out prior to supper. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed the on ice Whole Hog Roast and gourmet buffet dinner, prepared by Craig Guenther (the chef). Following supper many of the anglers the 24 hour participants get prepared for a night of fishing.

Sunday - March 11th, 2007
Awards Breakfast:
The event winds up with at the awards breakfast. Anglers and their families were invited to the Lakeview Resort to enjoy a breakfast buffet – get warm, get comfortable. This was also the time to enjoy the many raffle prize draws and the announcements of the top pledge earners! Anglers who fished for the whole 24 hours were given a limited edition T-shirt rewarding their efforts.

This FAQ is intended as a guide.

Are participants required to stay for the whole 24 Hours?
The event facilities are set up to operate for the full 24 hours. Participants are not required to fish the full time. However, must be present for the final prize draws to be eligible. Prizes will be awarded to the family event during following that part of the marathon, mid afternoon.

Where do we get Registration forms and pledge sheets?
Registrations are now available following the link on the walleyewarriormarathon site. Pledge sheets are sent as soon as the registration form is sent or faxed to the address on the form.

What do we do with the pledges we raise?
There will be a Cancer Care booth set up as you enter the fishing area in Gimli. There you will drop off your sheet and money and receive your participant package and ID tag.

Can we bring our own auger, shack and snowmobile?
Augers and shacks are very welcome, we will be on hand to drill holes for anyone who does not have an auger but no motorized vehicles on the ice please. There will designated parking at the marathon site.

Will there be washrooms and food available?
There will be porta potties set up near the fishing areas, like our first event we will have a concessions on the ice for food and beverages for the full 24 hours.

Can we keep any fish we catch?
Because we are under a competitive fishing permit all walleye must be released. Only Perch and Marias can be retained.

Where can we fish?
There will be posted rules on site, with the exact boundaries for the contestants. You do not have to fish in the provided tents, but it will be very comfortable in there! If you have more questions please contact us.

Will there be tackle and fishing licenses available?
A valid fishing license is required. Following the angling guide rules and regulations. Licenses, bait and tackle will once again be available.
